How is dental calculus formed?

If the teeth are not regularly brushed, they will turn yellow and the calculus, also known as tartar, will begin to form. Food residues, bacteria and mineral salts are substances that cause calculus formation. The calculus is yellowish in color between the teeth and gums.

It damages tooth enamel and gum with its hard textured layer. It is aesthetically uncomfortable with its dirty appearance.

The dental calculus, which provides a favorable environment for the reproduction of microbes, causes many problems leading to tooth loss. Food residues, sugar and mineral salts remain in the mouth during the proliferation of bacteria continues.

Gradually growing dental calculus is transformed into a hard deposit as it causes changes on the tooth surface and becomes calculus. It is usually between the front teeth of lower jaw  and the gum. The calculus is in the form of yellow or brown spots. The image is accompanied by bad oral odor and gingivitis.

The calculus,  is cleaned in as little as 20-25 minutes. It is a painless procedure and does not harm the teeth and gums. On the contrary, calculus damages tissues, teeth and gums.

How To Prevent Tooth Calculus

The mouth is full of microorganisms. Gums and joints are areas where food residues and microorganisms can reproduce and multiply. The calculus formation process is prolonged when the teeth are brushed regularly and especially between the teeth. In particular in  the interfaces that tooth brush can’t reach flossing between the teeth is as important as brushing.

The process for the formation of calculus begins when the calcium salts in the saliva, the food residues that are not cleaned up sufficiently and the food residues between the teeth are connected on teeth in a layer. As Bursa Vizyon Dental Clinic, we recommend to our patients that dental hygiene is a condition that should be considered for a healthy mouth and tooth structure.
